Audition :: Picnic

Nov 9 & 10 ( Mon & Tue) @ 7pm

Picnic requires 7 women ages 15 to 50 and 4 men ages 18 to 50.

Helen Potts – 40+, an older widow neighbor who lives with her aged and invalid mother. She is kindly and pleasant neighbor with an optimistic outlook who hires Hal to do work at her house.

Hal Carter – Early 20’s, A young stranger passing through town, hired by one of the neighbors. He is a former college football star, adrift and unemployed after army service and a failed Hollywood acting career. Good-looking, sexy, muscular. Shirtless in several scenes. Nearly all of the female characters are entranced by him, especially Madge. Dancing scene.

Millie Owens – Madge’s slightly younger sister, 15-17, tomboy, attractive in her own right, but known more for her brains than beauty.

Bomber – Local teenage newsboy, 15-18. Small role, primarily to comment on Madge’s beauty and leer at her.

Madge Owens – 18-20, Flora’s very beautiful 18 year old daughter, the town Beauty Queen, who is constantly admired for her physical beauty, but she longs to be acknowledged for something more substantial. Dancing scene.

Flora Owens – 30+, a widow who runs a boarding house with the help of her two teenage daughters, Madge and Millie.

Rosemary Sydney – 40+, an unmarried school teacher who rents a room at the boarding house. She has a suitor, Howard, a business owner from next town. Dancing scene.

Alan Seymour – Madge’s serious boyfriend, early 20’s, a genuinely good guy and an up-and-coming college student who is the son of the town’s richest citizen.

Irma Kronkite – 35+, School teacher and friend of Rosemary’s, who has been to New York during the summer and returns in the fall to teach.

Christine Schoenwalder – 30+, school teacher and friend of Rosemary’s and Irma’s. Somewhat shy, quiet, looks up to Irma and Rosemary.

Howard Bevens – Business owner, 40+, and Rosemary’s suitor. A mild-mannered man with a good spirit who doesn’t feel the need to marry. Dancing scene.
