Director/Play Selection Process

Please note that CSP only accepts produces plays submitted by a local director who is going to direct the show for CSP if chosen. Plays submitted without a director attached will not be considered. We are currently accepting applications for the 2019-20 season. Director/Play submissions will now be on a rolling basis, you can apply anytime. CSP will accept submissions after the deadline, but cannot guarantee they will be considered for the upcoming calendar season.

Application Process

Complete this Directors Form for the play/musical you wish to submit. If you have more than one submission, fill out the form for EACH submission. Typically we ask that directors submit no more than one play per season the reason being that we want a director who has a vision, design, etc and a real passion for directing the show he or she has submitted.

Once your application is complete, please submit the application WITH a copy of your script (either a hard copy or you can e-mail a PDF) – the script will be returned after the process is complete. These can be sent to us in one of two ways

  • drop it off at the theater in an envelope labeled “PLAY SUBMISSION – SUSIE MOAK” (if you do this, contact Susie Moak (playsubmission@chapelstreetplayers.org) and let her know you left a submission at the theatre

CSP only considers shows that are submitted by a director.Again, CSP will not accept a show submission without a director. If you have an original play you would like to be considered, it too, needs a director to submit it unless you as author are an experienced director submitting it with the intention to write and direct it.

If you are passionate about a play you want produced at CSP but don’t have a director in mind then you are encouraged to get involved with CSP in some capacity and meet our directors to spark their interest in the show you have in mind.

If you are new to writing and want your play to be “tried out” there is a option for you: CSP encourages local playwrights and we have a group (NEXT) who helps to foster original works – contact Joe Pukatsch (next@chapelstreetplayers.org) for more information on this process.

After Submission Process

A committee is chosen of CSP board members and any interested non-board members to review each play submitted by the deadline. Plays submitted by the deadline will be given a priority for the upcoming season. The members of the committee CANNOT have a submission for a show for the season being considered. The committee will review the plays from November to January. The committee will determine which directors they wish to interview about the play. You will be contacted either way. If you are selected for an interview, please complete as much of this form as you are able prior to the interview as it will help you with the interview process.

CSP produces four main stage shows and a FUNdraiser each season. Because of this, we need to ensure that we are selecting directors who are known for strong stage productions and your ability to work with volunteers. If a director submitting a play/musical is not known by a member of the committee, the committee will ask the CSP Board of Directors if the director is known to anyone on the board. If the director is not known, you will likely be asked to participate in a show for the current season as either an assistant director, stage manager or in a role that we would be able to see the work you do.
