CALL FOR DIRECTORS!

Director/Play Selection Process

Chapel Street Players performs 5 shows per season: 4 mainstage productions which are part of the season subscription, and a fundraiser which is not part of the subscription.  Our typical play selection process has changed.  No, the CSP Board will select 2 (of the 5) shows prior to the selection process.  Those two shows will usually not have a director assigned to them.  The other 3 shows will be selected by our usual process.

So, there are 2 ways to apply to direct at CSP

  1. Submit your vision to direct one of the pre-selected shows.
  2. Propose a show that you will direct. Please note that CSP only accepts plays submitted by a local director who is going to direct the show for CSP if chosen. Plays submitted without a director attached will not be considered.

Refer to the APPLICATION PROCESS section for instructions. We are currently accepting applications for the 2024-25 season.  Play submission deadline for that season is  November 30, 2023.  CSP  will not accept submissions after the deadline!

This year’s pre-selected shows are:

  • Clue: On Stage by Sandy Rustin- Although we will not usually have a director already selected, we do for this particular show, so this is NOT available for submission.
  • Cabaret ,music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb – This is available to direct, we need a director for this show.

After Submission Process

  •   A CSP selection committee that is composed of volunteers and board members reviews each play submitted. This year’s committee will be lead by Brian Touchette.
  • The members of the committee CANNOT have a submission for a show for the season being considered or be directly related to one of the directors submitting a show.
  • The committee will read the plays from December to January then determine which directors they wish to interview. Directors will be contacted either way.
  • If you are selected for an interview, please complete as much of this form as you are able prior to the interview as it will help you with the interview process.  Download: DIRECTORS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Thank you for your consideration in submitting a play to CSP – if you have any questions, please e-mail playsubmission@chapelstreetplayers.org .

NOTE: CSP produces four main stage shows and a FUNdraiser each season. Because of this, we need to ensure that we are selecting directors who are known for strong stage productions and ability to work with volunteers. If a director submitting a play/musical is not known by a member of the committee, the committee will ask the CSP Board of Directors if the director is known to anyone on the board. If the director is not known, they will likely be asked to participate in a show for the current season as either an assistant director, stage manager or in a role that we would be able to see the work you do.
