Art Goes On

Dear Chapel Street Subscribers, Volunteers, Patrons and Supporters:

We hope this email finds you and everyone you love healthy, well and staying that way.

Below is an update on our plans for the rest of the season and the impact this will have on our next season as well.

We have had to make the difficult decision to close the theatre to the public and to volunteers at least through June.  With so much uncertainty about the lifting of the “stay at home” order in May as well as the inability to bring casts together in a safe way for in-person rehearsals, we feel that this is the best decision.

HOWEVER, as we often say in theatre, “the show must go on.”  Although in this case, it will just be slightly delayed.

  • 4th production of the season: Moon Over the Brewery
The cast has continued to rehearse through online resources while at their individual homes. The set is mostly built and ready for actors to inhabit the space. The show will be moved to September 2020. Current subscribers can still see the show for free. Any comps or gift certificates to the theatre will be extended to include this show. Anyone who has made a reservation already for this show will need to reserve a new ticket, and we will let you know once the system has been updated for new reservations.
    New dates: Sept 25, 26, Oct 1, 2, 3 at 8pm; Sep 27 at 2pm

  • FUNdraiser: The Odd Couple (male and female versions)
The cast have their scripts and are anxious to bring you each of these comedy classics. The shows will be moved to November 2020. Anyone who has made a reservation already for this show will need to reserve a new ticket, and we will let you know once the system has been updated for new reservations.
New Dates: The Odd Couple (Female Version): Nov 6, 7, 12, 13 at 8pm; Nov 8 at 2pm
New Dates: The Odd Couple (Male Version): Nov 14, 19, 20, 21 at 8pm; Nov 15 at 2pm
  • NEXT: George Cope 24-Hour Playwriting Festival
CSP is proud and committed to bring this unique festival back to our stage. While we are tentatively looking at the summer for this event, we will be basing this on the safety and ability to come back together in public places.

  • 2020-2021 Season
As you know, CSP’s season usually opens in September or October. We are still committed to providing a full season; however, it will be adjusted due to the changes above. Our next Season will begin in early 2021 and go through the entire calendar year. Final details will be sent later once dates are approved but we are committed to delivering the same season we announced a few weeks ago.

Chapel Street has supported local community organizations and other volunteer groups for many years. The Chapel Street Board agreed that current food and beverage items that are at the theatre and part of our pre-show and intermission concessions will be donated to a local organization that provide safe environments for people who are in abusive relationships. In addition, CSP will not be applying for nonprofit aid grants that are being made available. We feel that this will provide more resources to organizations that are providing direct relief to communities.

The current health crisis has deeply impacted our communities, our country and the entire world. It is at times like these that the arts have often been a way to make sense of the nonsensical and at times even help us understand how to move forward. Theatre brings people together and the need for this connection is deeper now than ever. Once we are past this, Chapel Street will be ready to open our doors and celebrate that once again we will be able to see Theatre that inspires conversation and builds our community.

We appreciate all your continued support. Our CSP family (all of the volunteers, patrons and supporters) are how we have survived as a theatre for 85 years. We are looking forward to seeing all of you soon and wish you and your loved ones good health.

Sincerely,
Board of Directors, Chapel Street Players
