Steel Magnolias

CSP is a volunteer-based community theatre that is open to non-traditional casting which is color conscious, disability-inclusive, and accepts actors identifying as any gender.

Audition Dates: 

Nov 17 @ 7 – 9 pm
Nov 21 @ 7 – 9 pm

Call back Dates: 

Nov 24 @ 7 – 9 pm

Auditions will include cold readings from scenes from the play and will be available at the audition. No scripts will be available before auditions.

Note: All actors will be required to audition and perform in an accent appropriate for their character.

Audition Hint: Auditions and performances inspired by but not an imitation of the iconic movie portrayals encouraged.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals will start in early January.

You will be asked for your conflicts during auditions for early January through the show dates (ends mid-April). Rehearsals will be on Sunday (either afternoon or evenings) and two weeknights (Mon-Thurs 6:30 pm or after). Please be prepared to complete the conflict form for this timeframe.

CHARACTERS 

(actors from 18 and above will be considered for all characters – rough ages are given, but there is some flexibility with age) Production team is very open to non-traditional casting that is color conscious, disability-inclusive and actors identifying as any gender for these roles.

Truvy Jones (40-ish)

Owner of the beauty shop. Quick-witted and big hearted.

Annelle DuPuy-DeSoto (20s-30s)

Trudy’s beauty shop assistant. Nervous, awkward, and sweetly naive.

Clairee Belcher (50s-60s)

Widow of the former mayor, the Grande Dame.

Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie (20s)

M’Lynn’s daughter and the prettiest girl in town.

M’Lynn Eatenton (40s-50s)

Shelby’s mother, a socially prominent career woman.

Ouiser (pronounced “Weezer”) Boudreaux (50s-60s)

Wealthy curmudgeon, acerbic but lovable.

The women in this play are witty, intelligent, and above all, real characters.  They in no way, shape or form are meant to be portrayed as cartoons or caricatures.
